Balanced Mavs Breeze Past Bulldogs

DULUTH, MINN. -- Senior guard Abdul Mills led four players in double figures Thursday night as the Mavericks raced past Minnesota Duluth 84-73 to clinch a share of first place in the North Central Conference.
No. 11 UNO, now 22-4 overall and 8-3 in the NCC, finish the regular season at Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday afternoon. No. 14 MSU defeated North Dakota, 73-63, Thursday night to move into a three-way tie for second place in the NCC.
The Mavericks led the entire game, staking a 41-30 halftime lead as Mills and Calvin Kapels hit three-pointers in the final two and a half minutes.
UNO used a 14-1 run while holding UMD without a basket for nearly seven minutes to pull away after halftime. The Mavericks led by as many as 26 points with 5:49 to go in the game before cruising to its third straight win and seventh in the past eight games.
Randy Bland finished with 12 points, Kapels added 11 to gow iwth a game-high seven rebounds and freshman guard Denny Johnston had his second straight double-figure game with 10 points.
The Mavericks shot 52.8 percent from the field and 80 percent from the foul line (20-25).
UMD was led by Sean Seaman and Bryan Foss, who each scored 14 points.
