Late Goals Doom Mavs in Season Opener

EDMOND, Okla. - UNO led 2-1 with 25 minutes left in the game Friday before Central Oklahoma scored twice for a 3-2 win over the No. 4 Mavericks in the season-opening contest of the Carl's Jr. Classic, hosted by UCO.
Maverick junior Beth McGill opened the scoring in the 24th minute on a pass from freshman Casey Bigsby and sophomore Brandie Beale added the other Maverick goal in the second half with an assist from Danielle McCawley. The Mavs out shot the 23rd-ranked Bronchos 15-12 but UCO put in the decider with 10:21 remaining in the game on a corner kick. Beale, McGill, McCawley and Bigsby each led UNO with three shots each.
UNO will continue action in Edmond when it takes on Midwestern State Saturday at 1 p.m. in a neutral-site match.
