Beale Nets Hat Trick as Mavs Roll to Win

Sophomore forward Brandie Beale scored her third career hat trick as the Mavericks rolled 6-0 over Augustana Friday night at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben in both teams' North Central Conference opener. Beale added two assists for a career-high eight points as No. 11 UNO improved to 4-1-0 and 1-0-0 in the NCC. Sophomore forward Ali Portell added two goals for a career-high four points.
The Mavs wasted no time in scoring as junior Beth McGill got her third goal of the year off passes from Beale and junior Amber Richardson 44 seconds into the game. At the 15:38 mark Beale got her first of three straight goals off a nice shot 15 yards out with a defender on her. Freshman Casey Bigsby assisted on the goal. Beale then converted a penalty kick 10 minutes later and the Mavs, ranked first in the region, went into the half with a 3-0 lead.
Beale scored her third of the day and team-leading sixth of the year 10 minutes into the second half off a pass from freshman Amanda Iwansky. Portell scored her first of the year two minutes later off passes from Beale and sophomore McCawley and then she added another at the 77:00 mark from junior Tricia Braziel to close out scoring.
The Mavericks took 24 shots and put 14 on goal while the defense kept the Vikings shotless. Senior Amy Price and sophomore Ellen Petersen combined in goal for the shutout, the second of the year for UNO.
The offensive outpour marked the highest goal total all year for UNO and most in 16 games. The Mavericks are now 9-0-0 all-time against the Vikings (2-5-0, 0-1-0 NCC) and have out scored them 56-5 in the six-year-old series.
Nebraska-Omaha will host Minnesota Duluth September 15 at 1 p.m. in an NCC matchup.
