Findlay Edges UNO at Colorado Premier

DENVER, Colo. -- Mallory Fleming pounded a match-high 29 kills as Findlay edged Nebraska-Omaha 25-30, 30-24, 30-27, 18-30, 15-12 in first round action at the Colorado Premier Challenge Friday afternoon on the campus of Regis University. The Mavericks dropped to 3-2 overall after suffering their second-straight five-game loss of the season.
Sophomore middle blocker Carlie Christensen led the Mavericks as she tied her career-high with 18 kills, while hitting .500 (18k-3e-30a) and adding a match-high eight blocks.
Senior outside hitter Ashley Freeman added 13 kills. Senior rightside hitter Heather Hainline hit .533 with 10 kills in 15 attempts and only two errors. Also in double-figure kills was junior outside hitter Christina Reicks with 10.
The Mavericks lost, despite outhitting Findlay .240 to .183 and outblocking the Oilers 20 to 10.
Findlay is now 2-0 in the tournament after defeating ninth-ranked Tampa 30-27, 30-21, 30-26 earlier in the day.
Nebraska-Omaha will continue action at the Premier later tonight when they battle Tampa at 8:30 p.m. central time.
