UNO Goes On 3-Point Spree, But Falls in OT

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha men's basketball team shot the lights out from 3-point land, overcoming an 11-point deficit to force overtime, but still fell in its home opener to Missouri Western, 95-88.
The Mavericks (1-2) hit 15 threes on 31 attempts, breaking the previous record of 13 in a game, set in 1994 and tied in 2000. Senior Zac Robinson set an individual record with eight 3-pointers, bettering by one a record shared by Mike Conley and Andy Price, last accomplished in 1995.
The Griffons (2-1) led by 11 with nine minutes remaining, but two of Robinson's threes highlighted a 16-4 run that resulted in the Mavs taking a one-point lead with 4:18 remaining.
Missouri Western regained control, taking a six-point advantage with just 16 seconds remaining. A 3-pointer by Denny Johnston cut the deficit in half, then a big rebound by Jerry Williams on a missed free throw gave UNO the chance to tie. Michael Jenkins got fouled on his 3-point try with 0.6 seconds left and calmy sank all three free throws to force overtime.
The Griffons dominated the extra frame, however, outscoring UNO, 14-7.
Guard J.R. Reed led Missouri Western with 32 points as the team shot 61.3 percent from the field for the game.
Robinson finished with a team-high 28 points, scoring 22 in the second half. Jenkins finished with 18, while Johnston added 15.
