Mavs Claim Second Straight Conference Title

Grand Forks, N.D. - The Maverick tennis team captured three singles titles and two doubles titles on its way to winning the 2006 North Central Conference Tournament on Saturday night.
Senior Abby Wilson, junior Katie Schmidt and freshman Rachel Faulk each walked away from the tournament with victories in both singles and doubles.
The Mavericks finished the tournament with 58 points, ten ahead of second place North Dakota.
In doubles competition, Faulk and junior Maggie Russell combined to take the title at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory over Minnesota State's Kate Maland and Breck Rolfsrud.
At No. 2 doubles, Schmidt and Wilson posted an 8-6 victory over Minnesota Duluth's Beth Standke and Stacey Schulz.
In other action, Maggie Russell placed second at No. 3 singles, freshman Amy Pierson placed second at No. 5 singles and junior Katie Spahn placed third at No. 6 singles.
With the victory, the Mavericks earn an automatic bid for the North Central Regionals, being held early next month.
