UNO 2nd in Ironwood Classic

Four Mavericks finished in the top eight, but it wasn't enough to defend their team title in the Ironwood Collegiate Classic. Minnesota State, Mankato maintained its first round lead to edge UNO by nine shots to capture the team championship Saturday.

Augustana's Carly Roach won the individual title, shooting a 6-over 78 Saturday at the 5,887-yard Ironwood Country Club for a 155 total, seven shots clear of Minnesota State's Anne Martin, who stumbled after a first-round 75 to shoot 87 for a 162.
Lynn Mulligan and Lindsay Newton led the Mavericks, tying for fifth with 166 totals. Mulligan shot her second straight 83 and Newton an 82 Saturday. Mandy Houtz was next with a 167 after an 85 Saturday and Kate O'Dea was eighth with a 168. O'Dea, who opened with an 81 Friday, followed that with an 87.
UNO's Black team finished seventh at 718, led by Allyson Yung, who carded an 84 Saturday and a 169 for the tournament to finish in a tie for ninth.
UNO's next action will come Friday and Saturday in the Southwest Minnesota State Invitational in Marshall, Minn.
