UNO Home For 2 Weekend Matches

The Mavericks return home to Ak-Sar-Ben Field where they will host a pair of weekend non-conference matches, facing Truman State Saturday and Missouri Southern Sunday. Both matches will begin at 1:30 p.m. North Dakota will play each day as well, facing Missouri Southern and Truman State at 11:30 a.m.
The Records
UNO won its opening two games of the season last week and is 2-0. The Mavericks were 20-2 last season and won the North Central Conference and the NCAA II championships. Truman State is 2-0 and Missouri Southern brings a 1-1 record into the weekend.
The Series
UNO holds an 8-2 edge in the all-time series with Truman State and has won the past two meetings. UNO won last year, 2-1, at Truman State. The Mavericks hold a 5-0 advantage over Missouri Southern and defeated the Lions 3-2 in overtime in 2004, the last time the teams met.
The Coach
Don Klosterman is in his eighth season as the UNO head coach. Klosterman, a 1974 graduate of Benedictine, has a 126-26-4 mark and is the only coach the Mavericks have ever had. He has twice been named the NSCAA Coach of the Year, in 2002 and 2005.
Last Year
The Mavericks were 20-2 in the 2005 season and won their fifth North Central Conference title before going on to claim their first NCAA II championship with a 2-1 overtime win over Seattle Pacific.
Next Week
UNO will open North Central Conference play with a match on Friday, Sept. 8 at Augustana at 4 p.m., then will return home to host Texas Woman's University at 1p.m. Sept. 9 at Ak-Sar-Ben.
Maverick Notes...
F Mavericks opened the season last week with a 9-0 home field win over Minnesota-Crookston. Amanda Iwansky, Amber Richardson and Lindsey Nealon all scored two goals and Beth McGill had a goal and two assists. UNO did not allow a shot attempt in the game.
F UNO scored a 4-0 win at Rockhurst in its first road match of the year, with goals from four different players. Whitney Hill had a goal and an assist.
F Every able player on the roster played against UMC and all but two against Rockhurst.
F The opening match win was the first for the Mavericks since 2003.
F This is the third time the Mavericks have started the season with two shutouts.
