Beale Leads Mavs to 3-1 Win over Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Brandie Beale scored a goal and added two assists, leading the University of Nebraska-Omaha soccer team to its third straight victory, 3-1 over Augustana in a North Central Conference match, Saturday at Yankton Trail Park.
UNO (7-5, 4-2 NCC) got on the board first, at the 11:02 mark, as Casey Bigsby, last week's NCC offensive player of the week, scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year, jamming in a rebound off a shot from Beale. Augustana (6-6-1, 2-4 NCC) tied the game at 32:15 when Katie Shandri scored on a third effort after a corner kick. Mavs goalie Ellen Petersen made two saves at point-blank range before Shandri found the net. Petersen, the reigning NCC defensive player of the week, would go on to make five saves in earning the win, improving her record to 5-4.
Tara Wegehaupt scored what proved to be the game-winner early in the second half, scoring her first of the season off a Beale corner kick at 54:57, giving Beale a team-leading five assists on the season.
Beale finished off the scoring herself, adding an insurance goal just 31 seconds later, scoring her fourth of the year, with an assist from Bigsby.
The Mavericks outshot the Vikings 30-7, with a 17-6 advantage in shots on goal. Beale tallied seven shots, five on net.
UNO returns to action Sunday with another North Central Conference match at St. Cloud State at 1 p.m.
