Mavs, Minnesota State Meet for 3rd Time

The Mavericks will be trying to extend their 10-game unbeaten string and end a two-game losing skid at the same time Friday when they meet host Minnesota State-Mankato in the NCAA Division II tournament's third round at 1:30 p.m.
UNO, 13-5-1, has shut out its past five opponents, winning nine before playing Winona State to a scoreless tie in the second round last Sunday. The Mavericks advanced by winning a shootout.
Minnesota State, 17-2-1, won both meetings with UNO this year, 3-0 in Mankato and 4-2 in Omaha. MSU was the last team to beat UNO, on Sept. 30.
The winner of the UNO-MSU match will meet the winner of the Grand Valley State-Drury match, which will be played Friday at 11 a.m. in Mankato. That match, the national quarterfinals, will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in Mankato.
During its streak, the Mavericks have outscored opponents by a 23-3 margin with seven shutouts. Senior goalkeeper Ellen Petersen, with eight shutouts on the season, has seen her goals against average dip to 0.85 as a result.
Casey Bigsby leads the team in scoring with 9 goals and 4 assists for 22 points, while Brandie Beale is next with 6-9--21 and Dani McCawley at 8-3--19.
