UNO Opens Home Season Hosting Thanksgiving Classic
Nov 22, 2007 | Men's Basketball
The University of Nebraska-Omaha men's basketball team opens the home portion of the 2007-08 schedule with the annual Thanksgiving Classic, taking on Colorado State-Pueblo Friday, and Montana State-Billings, Saturday.
The Mavs started the season at another tournament, the American Family Hoopster Classic, hosted by St. Cloud State, returning home with two wins, over Mary and Bemidji State. Junior Michael Jenkins scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Mavs to an 88-66 victory in the opener against Mary, only to top that effort with 35 points against Bemidji State. Jenkins has had a sharp eye, posting a .567 field goal percentage, including .455 from 3-point range. He is also 22-for-23 at the free throw line (.957).
Colorado State-Pueblo holds an 8-6 advantage all-time over the Mavericks, but UNO took a 66-60 victory last season in Pueblo. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Mavericks and Yellowjackets, but they will be able to build a history together quickly, as the teams will play in Billings on back-to-back nights in December.
