UNO will make its sixth straight trip to the NCAA Division II soccer tournament, facing Truman State in the first round Friday at Winona, Minn., in the Central Regional. The winner will advance to a Sunday match with host Winona State. Game times will be announced later.
UNO, 12-5, is the No. 3 seed in the region and Truman, 15-6-1, is the No. 6 seed. Winona State, 16-3-1, is the No. 2 seed. UNO lost earlier this season at Truman Sate, 2-1. The Mavericks have not faced Winona State in five years and own a 2-0 all-time record.
Minnesota State, Mankato, the top-seeded team in the Central Region, will host the other three-team bracket. No. 4 seed Mary will meet No. 5 seeded Central Missouri Friday, with the winner advancing to a Sunday match against MSU.
The winners of the two three-team brackets will square off on Nov. 16, with the winner of that match advancing to the quarterfinals against the Great Lakes Region winner Nov. 18. Semifinal matches, Nov. 29, and the championship match, Dec. 1, will be held at Orange Beach, Ala.
The Mavericks, the 2005 national champions, have won eight straight matches this season. UNO last year advanced to the national quarterfinals before bowing to Grand Valley State. UNO holds a 15-5-1 record in NCAA II tournament play.
