Mavericks Face 3 Matches in Minnesota

The Mavericks make their first road trip of the season this weekend when they go to St. Peter, Minn., to play three matches. UNO will play the host Gustavus Adolphus team Friday night at 6. Saturday, UNO faces Winona State at 9 a.m. and North Dakota at 1:30 p.m.
The Team
The Mavericks are 1-0 on the season after an 8-0 opening-match home win over Nebraska Wesleyan Sunday. UNO returns six players from last year's North Central Conference championship squad that advanced to the NCAA II regional tournament. The Mavericks were 11-8-0 last year overall. UNO was 6-0 in the NCC and won the conference tournament. The Mavs lost in the regional championship match. Sophomore Rachel Faulk won the No. 2 singles title in the NCC meet last year and teamed with senior Maggie Russell to win the No. 1 doubles title.
The Coaches
Bill Nichols is in his seventh season as head coach. The 1980 Wichita State graduate has led UNO to two straight NCC titles and four trips to the NCAA II tournament and a 72-35 record. Nichols is the only head coach the Mavericks have had since starting the program in 2001. Prior to coming to UNO, Nichols guided the Wichita State men's team for 12 years, winning five Missouri Valley Conference titles. Former Maverick player Sarah Huls is in her second season as a graduate assistant coach. Huls is the career leader in singles and doubles victories.
Coming Up
The Mavericks return home to host Graceland on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Hanscom Park Tennis Center.
