OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha tennis team edged visiting Northwest Missouri State, 5-4, Friday night to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Mavericks have now won seven straight matches.
Northwest Missouri State fell to 3-3 on the year.
The Mavericks got off to a quick start, winning the first three singles matches. Rachel Faulk defeated Emily Lindsay, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Maggie Russell decided Carolina Amaral, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Amy Pierson won the No. 3 singles match over Lina Gomez, 6-4, 6-1.
Nebraska-Omaha also picked up a win at No. 5 singles when Kylie Roe edged Jordan Lipira, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
The Mavericks' top doubles team of Russell/Faulk helped secure the victory with an 8-3 win over Gomez and Amaral.
UNO will resume action next Saturday, Mar. 24, when it hosts Rockhurst at 3 p.m. at Hanscom Tennis Center.
