UNO is now 12-5 on the season heading into the NCC meet and finished the conference's regular season with a 6-0 mark for the third straight year, posting four wins last weekend.
Maggie Russell is now the career leader in singles and doubles victories...Russell earlier this season set the doubles mark and has 61...Last weekend, she posted four wins to improve to 47-24...Both records were held by assistant coach Sarah Huls, who had 45 singles wins and 52 doubles victories...Rachel Faulk is the defending champion in the No. 2 singles and also teamed with Russell to win the No. 1 singles in 2006...UNO has won 19 straight NCC dual matches, dating back to 2004.
The Coaches
Bill Nichols is in his seventh season as head coach. The 1980 Wichita State graduate has led UNO to two straight NCC titles and four trips to the NCAA II tournament and a 79-40 record. Nichols is the only head coach the Mavericks have had since starting the program in 2001. Prior to coming to UNO, Nichols guided the Wichita State men's team for 12 years, winning five Missouri Valley Conference titles.
Former Maverick player Sarah Huls is in her second season as a graduate assistant coach.
Coming Up
The field for the NCAA II tournament will be announced April 25 with the top two teams in the region serving as host sites on May 4-5.
