Mavericks Advance to Regional Final vs. Emporia St

WICHITA, Kan. -- Rachel Faulk and Maggie Russell each won their singles matches Thursday afternoon to sew up a 5-0 win over Minnesota Duluth in the NCAA II North Central Regional. The Mavericks will meet Emporia State at 3 p.m. Friday.
The match was moved from Emporia, Kan., to Wichita because of thunderstorms that swept through the area Thursday morning. Friday's match is scheduled for Emporia.
UNO won all three doubles matches over the Bulldogs before Faulk defeated Anna Hockett, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Russell scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stacy Schulz at No. 2 singles.
The duo also teamed up for an 8-4 win over Hockett and Schulz in doubles. In the other doubles matches, Kelsey Haas and Kylie Roe defeated Brynne Wischer and Kayelyn Johnson, 8-6, and Amy Pierson and Katie Spahn downed Steph Keller and Sarah Striegel, 8-1.
The winner of the regional meet will advance to the NCAA II final sixteen in Altamonte Springs, Fla., May 9-12.
