Quest for NCC Title Begins Saturday

The Maverick soccer team's quest to win its fourth straight North Central Conference title begins Saturday when UNO opens the conference season at Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m. The two-match road trip continues Sunday at Minnesota State, Mankato at noon.
UNO is 1-3 heading into the final season of NCC play with a title in six of the past seven seasons and three straight.
Minnesota Duluth brings a 1-2 mark into the contest. Minnesota State is 4-2. The Mavericks are 7-1 all-time vs. the Bulldogs, claiming a 2-0 win last year in Duluth and a 4-0 decision in Omaha. Against MSU, the Mavs are 14-1-1.
Last year, the teams played to a 2-2 tie in Mankato before UNO posted a 5-1 triumph two weeks later in Omaha. UNO will be trying to rebound from a 2-1 non-conference loss last weekend at Truman State.
UNO's lone win came in its home opener, a 7-1 rout of Regis, on Aug. 31, highlighted by Dani McCawley's three goals and two by Mykala Hanson. McCawley, a senior from Ralston, is tied for the lead in goals in the NCC with four.
