Mavs Host No. 23 Wayne State in Key Regional Match

The 16th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team (6-2) will return to the friendly confines of the Sapp Fieldhouse this Wednesday, Sept. 5, where the Mavericks will entertain No. 23-ranked Wayne State (7-2) at 7 p.m.
Match Notes
The Mavericks have won the last five meetings between the two schools. The last Wayne State victory over UNO came in a five-game marathon win during the 2002 season at Wayne. Wayne State is currently ranked No. 23 in the latest AVCA Divsion II top 25 poll. The Wildcats earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory last season, advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA II North Central Regional. The Mavericks have advanced to three-straight NCAA Tournaments while Wayne State has advanced to two-consecutive NCAA Tournaments, the only two in school history.
The Record
The Mavericks are currently 6-2 on the season after going 3-1 last weekend at the Florida Southern Classic. In the first match of the tournament, UNO was swept by undefeated Pittsburg State 3-0, but the Mavericks rebounded with three-straight wins including a four-game upset over fifth-ranked Florida Southern and a sweep over previously undefeated St. Leo. Nebraska-Omaha concluded the tournament with a three-game sweep over Lees-McRae.

In the latest CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Sept. 3, Nebraska-Omaha was ranked No. 16. Other NCC schools in the top 25 included: Minnesota Duluth (4), Augustana (17), and Minnesota State (T-25). Wayne State is currently ranked No. 23.
