Weekly Notes
The UNO Maverick volleyball team (9-10, 5-4 MIAA) will take a short break from MIAA action when they entertain 22nd-ranked Augustana on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will then resume league play with a 7 p.m. home contest on Friday night against 14th-ranked Central Missouri.
A Closer Look
The Mavericks are currently 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the MIAA after winning two of three conference matches last week. UNO started the week with two sweeps, beating both Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Western in three sets. The Mavs concluded the week with a 3-0 loss at 12th-ranked Truman State.
Nebraska-Omaha is led by junior Ellen Thommes, who is averaging a team best 3.16 kills per set with a .381 hitting percentage along with 0.99 blocks per set. Thommes is the reigning MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.
Former North Central Conference foe Augustana is currently ranked No. 22 in the latest AVCA top 25 poll with a 15-6 overall record and an 8-1 mark in the Northern Sun Conference. The Vikings have won five-straight matches including a four-set win over then 13th-ranked Minnesota Duluth. Augustana is led by senior outside hitter Cayla Schroeder who is averaging 3.18 kills and 3.88 digs per set.
UNO leads the all-time series with Augustana, 34-13. The Mavericks have won the last two meetings, including a four-set win over the Vikings in last year's NCAA North Central Regional. This will be the first-ever non-conference meeting between the two schools.
Central Missouri is ranked No. 14 in the nation with a 20-6 overall mark and an 8-2 MIAA record. The Jennies are led by legendary head coach Peggy Martin who owns over 1,000 career victories and is in her 33rd and final season as UCM's volleyball mentor. Statistically, Central Missouri is led by a pair of freshmen, Paula Harris (3.49 kps, .319 hitting %) and Allie Huffman (3.40 kps, 2.59 dps)
The Jennies lead the all-times series, 23-10. The two teams last played during the 2006 season with UNO pulling out a dramatic five-set win in Warrensburg.

In the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Oct. 13, five MIAA opponents were ranked in the top 20, including Washburn (No. 9), Emporia State (No. 10), Truman State (No. 12), Central Missouri (No. 14), and Pittsburg State (No. 15).

Dig Pink
Wednesday's match against Augustana has been designated as “Dig Pink” night. Both teams will be wearing pink jerseys in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The event is sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation. The Side-Out Foundation (Side-Out) was established in 2004 to raise money and awareness about Cancer through the recreational activity of volleyball. The name underscores the purpose of the organization – “side-out” in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against Cancer, Side-Out will support health care professionals and researchers help women and men with Cancer maintain / regain control of their own lives through improved awareness, education, detection, treatment, and cure, thereby enabling them to live life to the fullest.
Important Notes:
• Everyone is invited to wear pink Wednesday night as a way to support the fight against cancer.
• A donation collection will occur between games 2-3 -100% of the profits will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
• Free parking for the event will be on the lower level of the East parking garage
