UNO Hosts No. 7 Washburn; Travels to No. 8 ESU, FH

Weekly Notes
The UNO Maverick volleyball team (12-12, 5-5 MIAA) will face two top-10 teams this week in their three-match slate. The Mavericks begin the week by hosting seventh-ranked Washburn on Wednesday, Oct. 29, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO then travels to eighth-ranked Emporia State on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match with the Hornets. The Mavericks conclude the week with a 3 p.m. contest on Sunday at Fort Hays State.
A Closer Look
The Mavericks are riding a three-match winning streak and own a 12-12 overall record and an 8-5 MIAA mark. Last week, UNO defeated Missouri Southern, 3-1, on the road and then returned to the Sapp Fieldhouse to pick up wins over 15th-ranked Pittsburg State (3-2) and Southwest Baptist (3-0).
The Mavericks have a balanced attack paced by a trio of juniors who are all averaging over 2.9 kills per set. Sara Kampschnieder leads the team with 3.28 kills per set and seven double-doubles on the season. Ellen Thommes is hitting at a team-leading .354 clip while averaging 2.97 kills and a team-best 1.10 blocks per set. Kelli Goeser averages 2.90 kills and 1.69 digs per set.
The UNO defense leads the MIAA with 18.65 digs per set.
Washburn is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation, sporting a 26-2 overall record and an 11-2 league mark. The Lady Blues have won 12th straight matches and have swept five consecutive opponents. WU has also won 16-straight sets.
WU has four players averaging over 2.35 kills per set. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Shepard leads Washburn with 3.13 kills and 1.75 digs per set. Freshman Mollie Lacy is hitting at a .348 clip while averageing 2.68 kills and 0.67 blocks per set. Junior Kate Hampton directs the WU attack, averaging 10.16 assists and 2.59 digs per set.
Washburn swept UNO on Sept. 24 in Topeka. The two teams are tied in the all-time series at 2-2 with the Lady Blues picking up the last two victories.
Emporia State leads the MIAA with a 12-1 conference mark and a 26-2 overall record. The Hornets are currently ranked No. 8 in the latest AVCA top 25 poll.
ESU has won four-straight since suffering their only league loss at Washburn. The Hornets are led by junior outside hitter Arica Shepard who is averaging 3.84 kills and 3.52 digs per set. Sophomore setter Ting Liu leads the MIAA with 12.03 assists per set. Omaha native Brianne Boner averages a team-leading 1.17 blocks per set.
The Hornets defeated UNO in four sets on Sept. 27 in Omaha. The Mavericks lead the all-time series with ESU, 3-2-1.
Fort Hays State has lost six-straight matches and is 9-17 overall and 2-11 in the MIAA. The Tigers are led by junior Lilian Rezende who is averaging 3.57 kills and 3.26 digs per set. Sophomore Katelyn Lapham anchors the Tiger defense with 4.90 digs per set.

In the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Oct. 27, five MIAA opponents were ranked in the top 20, including Washburn (No. 7), Emporia State (No. 8), Truman State (No. 11), Central Missouri (No. 14), and Pittsburg State (No. 18).
