This Week
The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team returns to the soccer pitch Friday, Nov. 14 when it plays Texas A&M-Commerce in the first round of the NCAA II South Central Region tournament. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo. The Mavericks earned the fourth seed, while the Lions are the fifth seed. The winner of the match will take on the No. 1 seed in the region, Central Missouri on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
Scouting Nebraska-Omaha
The Mavericks finished their first season in the MIAA with a record of 13-5-0 overall and 11-5-0 in conference. Offensively, the Mavericks are paced by All-MIAA selection, senior #Casey Bigsby#. Bigsby finished the regular season with six goals, four assists and 16 points. Anchoring the Maverick defense are goalkeepers #Lauren Fox and Elizabeth Odorisio#. The duo has combined for 11 shutouts, including four straight.
Scouting Texas A&M-Commerce
Texas A&M-Commerce finished with an overall record of 14-3-3 and a second place finish in the Lone Star Conference with a record of 7-1-2. Meagan Lasley leads the Lions potent offensive attack with 19 goals and 11 assists. In goal, Taylor Jordan has collected 91 saves and owns a 0.79 goals against average to lead the Lion defense.
The Coaches
Head coach #Don Klosterman#, has compiled a 170-38-7 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship. Klosterman has also been named the National Coach of the Year two times (2002, 2005).
The Lions are coached by Neil Piper who has a career record of 138-63-18 in his 11th season at Texas A&M-Commerce. Piper has led the Lions to the NCAA II tournament three times and has been named the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year twice.

This is the first-ever meeting between Nebraska-Omaha and Texas A&M-Commerce.

UNO contiuned its strong defensive play to finish the regular season on a four-game winning streak. The Mavs opened the week with a 1-0 overtime victory against Southwest Baptist on Thursday. #Amanda Iwansky# scored the game-winning goal at 93:26 off a cross pass from #Mykala Hanson#. UNO concluded the week with a 3-0 upset win over No. 6 Central Missouri. #Becca Swanson#, #Lindsey Nealon and Tara Wegehaupt# each scored a goal to lead the offense.
Maverick Honors
Three Mavericks earned All-MIAA honors this week. #Casey Bigsby received first-team accolades while Megan Jensen and Hayley Renshaw# earned second-team honors.
#Amanda Iwansky# was also named the MIAA offensive player of the week as she helped UNO win two conference matches. She scored the only goal in UNO's 1-0 overtime win against Southwest Baptist and tallied two assists in the Mavericks 3-0 win over sixth-ranked Central Missouri.
