UNO Heads to NWMSU; Hosts MWSU, No. 10 Truman

Weekly Notes
The UNO Maverick volleyball team (14-13, 10-6 MIAA) will travel to Northwest Missouri State for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Nebraska-Omaha will then conclude its home portion of the 2008 season with a 7 p.m. match on Friday against Missouri Western and a 5 p.m. match on Saturday versus No. 10 Truman State.
The Mavericks' lone senior, Annie Rice, will be honored prior to Saturday's night's match against Truman State.
A Closer Look
The Mavericks have won five out of their last six matches and are currently 14-13 overall and in fifth place in the MIAA at 10-6. UNO upset seventh-ranked Washburn, 3-1, last Wednesday in the Sapp Fieldhouse, snapping the Lady Blues' 12-match winning streak.
Nebraska-Omaha has a balanced attack paced by a trio of juniors who are all averaging over 2.9 kills per set. Sara Kampschnieder leads the team with 3.30 kills per set and eight double-doubles on the season. Ellen Thommes is hitting at a team-leading .351 clip while averaging 2.99 kills and a team-best 1.13 blocks per set. Kelli Goeser averages 2.95 kills and 1.59 digs per set.
Led by junior Kayla Jansen's 4.74 digs per set, the UNO defense leads the MIAA with 18.59 digs per set.
Northwest Missouri State snapped a four-match losing skid last Saturday with a five-set win over Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats are 9-20 overall and 6-10 in the MIAA.
NWMSU has a balanced attack with four players averaging over 2 kills per set. Amber Ryan leads the Bearcats with 2.83 kills and 0.88 blocks per set. Paige Spangenberg leads the Northwest defense with 5.43 digs per set.
UNO swept the Bearcats on Oct. 8 in Omaha and leads the all-time series, 28-6.
Missouri Western has dropped five-straight and is 4-28 overall and 1-15 in league play. The Griffons are led by Megan Voelz and Kelli Sicner who both average just over 2 kills per set. Shari Tompkins anchors the MWSU defense with 3.44 digs per set.
The Mavericks swept MWSU on Oct. 10 in St. Joseph, Mo. UNO is 12-0 all-time against the Griffons.
Truman State has won four-straight since being swept at Washburn on Oct. 24. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation with a 25-7 overall record and a 12-4 conference mark.
Eli Medina (3.10 kps) leads a quartet of hitters who all average over 2 kills per set. Allie Cherven averages 2.53 kills per set on .335 hitting with a team-best 1.18 blocks per set. Melissa Keck is hitting .335 on the season with 2.53 kills and 0.66 blocks per set.
The Bulldogs swept UNO, 3-0, on Oct. 11 in Kirksville. UNO leads the all-time series with Truman, 13-4. However the Bulldogs have won the last three meetings.

In the Bison/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Nov. 3, five MIAA opponents were ranked in the top 20, including Emporia State (No. 5), Washburn (No. 7), Truman State (No. 10), Central Missouri (No. 14), and Pittsburg State (No. 19).
