It's The Texas Two-Step For Maverick Men

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team will head south for two games before the Christmas break. The Mavericks will take part in the River City Classic in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20 and 21. They'll play host St. Mary's University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. They'll square off with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday at 5:15 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 7-1 on the season and 2-1 in the MIAA. UNO is coming off a 73-64 win over MIAA foe Northwest Missouri State last Saturday. St. Mary's is 3-4 on the year. The Rattlers last played on Dec. 2, a 65-60 loss to Angelo State. They will play Huston-Tillotson University on Wednesday before hosting the Mavs. Southeastern Oklahoma is 1-8 in action this season. The Storm is coming off its first win of the year, 44-42 over Eastern New Mexico last Saturday.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 59-40 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Jim Zeleznak is also in his fourth season at St. Mary's. He is 50-43 as the head coach of the Rattlers. Tony Robinson coaches Southeastern Oklahoma. He is 243-231 all-time at his alma mater ('76).
The Series: UNO leads the all-time series with St. Mary's 1-0 and trails Southeastern Oklahoma 1-0. The Mavericks and St. Mary's last met in 2002 while UNO was known as the University of Omaha when it last played Southeastern in 1956.

Coming Up: The Mavericks will enjoy a brief Christmas break before returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31 when they visit Emporia State for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. They'll continue the road swing on Saturday, Jan. 3 when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to face Missouri Western at 7:30 p.m.
