UNO Men Play First Home Game in Three Weeks

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team returns home after nearly a month on the road for two games this week. The Mavericks will host the York College Panthers on Tuesday, Dec. 9 and the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats on Saturday, Dec. 13. Tuesday's game begins at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game tips at 6:00 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in the MIAA. UNO picked up its first league win with an 80-77 win at Fort Hays State last Saturday. The Panthers are 0-9 following an 89-59 loss at the University of Sioux Falls on Dec. 6. Northwest is 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in MIAA action. The Bearcats are coming off an 80-59 loss at Washburn last Saturday.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 57-40 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Tom Linnell is in his second year at York where he is 5-34 all-time. He is a 2000 graduate of Hastings College. Steve Tappmeyer is in his 21st season guiding the Bearcats hoop fortunes. He is 399-196 all-time in Maryville.
The Series: The Mavericks are 4-0 in their brief history against York College. They first squared off in 2003. UNO trails Northwest 12-11 in the all-time series. The two schools first met during the 1948-49 season. Last season, they split a pair of games with the visitors winning each game.
Media: Saturday's game against Northwest will be broadcast live on 1620 The Zone with David Gustufson calling the action. The broadcast begins 10 minutes before opening tip-off. The game also will be available free to view on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule deep in the heart of Texas. The Mavs will play St. Mary's of Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma State at the River City Classic in San Antonio on Dec. 20 and 21. Saturday's game starts at 7:30 p.m. while Sunday's game begins at 5:15 p.m.
