Jenkins Earns 2nd-Team All-District Honor

University of Nebraska at Omaha junior guard Michael Jenkins has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' all-North Central Dictrict second team, it was announced Tuesday.
Jenkins led the Mavericks in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game to go with 3.3 rebounds. His 522 points this season ranks as the 9th most in a season in school history. His career total of 1,081 stands No. 16.
The 6-3, 185-pound native of Bellevue also was named to the five-player North Central Region all-tournament team. Others on that team included: Jonte Flowers, Winona State, Most Outstanding Player; John Smith, Winona State; Kevin Ratzsch, Northern State; Cory McIntosch, Augustana; Michael Jenkins, Nebrasha-Omaha.
Jenkins scored 40 points in UNO's two tournament games. Justin Petersen led the torunament in field goal shooting, hitting 13 of 17 shots for 76.5 percent. He also was the top sniper from three-point range, hitting 71.4 percent (5-for-7). Jerry Bennett was the top rebounder with 29, averaging 14.5. Bennett grabbed a career-high 17 in the opening-game win over Fort Lewis and 12 vs. Winona State.
Senior guard Denny Johnston became the 30th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club when he hit a three-pointer early in the second half. He finished his four-year career with 1,001.
