Mavs Finish Tournament with Split

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team settled for a two-match split on Saturday, defeating Mary in three sets before concluding the Comfort Inn & Suites/Firewater Grille Tournament with a 3-0 loss to Rockhurst. The Mavericks are now 2-2 on the season.

Junior middle blocker #Ellen Thommes# blasted 15 kills at a sizzling .667 hitting clip while adding two blocks to lead the Mavericks to a a 25-13, 25-17, 25-18 victory over Mary in the first match of the day.
As a team, UNO hit .432 while holding the Marauders to a .051 hitting percentage.
Junior outside hitter #Kelli Goeser# added 12 kills, eight digs, and two blocks in the victory. Fellow outside #Kayla Uhing# hit .500 with six kills, one error, in 10 attempts.
Freshman #Emily Myers# directed the UNO offense with 37 assists while contributing defensively with six digs.
#Angie Reicks#, #Annie Rice#, and #Jamie Tooley# combined for 39 digs to pace the Maverick defensive effort. UNO held a commanding 57 to 33 advantage in digs.
Rockhurst box score
Despite Kelli Goeser's career-high 20 kills on .475 hitting, the Mavericks struggled in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) loss to Rockhurst in the tournament's final match.
Goeser and Thommes, who added 10 kills on .500 hitting, were the only two Mavericks to hit over .050 in the match.
Myers registered her second double-double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs while Reicks led UNO defensively with a match-high 17 digs.
The Mavericks were plagued by eight service errors with only three aces in the loss.
The Mavericks will travel to Austin, Texas next weekend to participate in the St. Edward's Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6.
