Mavs Open MIAA Play on the Road

The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team will hit the road for the first time this season as it begins play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with matches against Missouri Western on Thursday Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. and Truman State on Saturday Sept. 13 at 12 p.m.
Last Week
UNO improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory over Mary last Saturday at the UNO Soccer Field. The Mavs were led by a pair of seniors – MaryClaire Murnan and Casey Bigsby. Murnan netted two goals, while Bigsby scored the decisive goal.
Missouri Western is 1-2-1 on the season. The Griffons lost 3-0 to Texas Woman's University and tied Newman 0-0 last week. Truman State improved to 4-0 on the season with a pair of convincing wins at home. The Bulldogs blanked then no. 9 Central Oklahoma 2-0 and routed Southwestern Oklahoma State 7-1.
The Series
This will be the first ever meeting between UNO and Missouri Western. UNO has a commanding 10-3 record against Truman State. The Mavs and Bulldogs split their two meeting last season with UNO defeating the Bulldogs in the NCAA II Tournament by a score of 3-0 on a neutral field in Winona, Minn.
The Coaches
Head coach Don Klosterman has compiled a 159-33-7 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship. Klosterman has also been named the National Coach of the Year two times (2002, 2005) and has claimed six NCC Championships.
Jeff Hansen is in his third season as the Missouri Western head coach and is all-time winningest coach in school history. The Bulldogs are coached by Mike Cannon who has compiled an overall record of 203-72-25 and is ranked seventh in victories among active Division II coaches.
Next Week
The Mavs will be in action next week with pair of MIAA matches. UNO will conclude its three-game roadswing will a match against Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The Mavs will return home on Sept. 20 when they host Missouri Southern at 1:00 p.m at the UNO Soccer Field.

In the NSCAA/adidas Division II Top 25 poll released on Sept. 9, Nebraska-Omaha is ranked no. 6. Truman State, the defending MIAA conference champions are ranked no. 16.
