Mavericks Host Truman State in Top 25 Showdown

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team returns to action this weekend with a showdown against No. 4 Truman State in MIAA action Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the UNO Soccer Field.
Despite having only one home contest all year, Truman State (8-0, 4-0 MIAA) comes to Omaha on a tear, winning their first eight contests by a combined score of 19-4. The Bulldogs have shutout four opponents and knocked off two ranked foes, No. 25 Quincy (Ill.) and No. 9 Central Oklahoma, during their hot start to the 2008 campaign.
Last Week
The Mavericks (4-1, 2-1 MIAA) suffered their first loss of the 2008 season last Thursday with a 3-1 setback at Central Missouri, but were able to bounce back with a 4-1 home victory against Missouri Southern.
The Mavericks used a balanced attack to get past Missouri Southern. Four different players netted goals in the contest, including #Amanda Iwansky#, #MaryClaire Murnan#, Hilary Horvatic and #Becca Swanson#.
Truman State stayed unbeaten with a pair of road conference wins last week against Washburn and Emporia State. The Bulldogs used two Katie Reuck goals to knock off Washburn 2-1 and followed that up with a 1-0 win against Emporia State.
The Series
The Bulldogs will be coming to Omaha seeking revenge since the last time these two foes faced off was last year, when UNO ended the Bulldogs season with a 3-0 win in the NCAA II Tournament.
Overall, the Mavericks hold a 10-3 all-time advantage, including a 4-1 lead in Omaha.
The Coaches
Head coach #Don Klosterman#, has compiled a 161-34-7 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship. Klosterman has also been named the National Coach of the Year two times (2002, 2005).
The Bulldogs are coached by Mike Cannon, the winningest coach in Truman State soccer history. Cannon, in his 16th season, has compiled an overall record of 206-72-25.
Rankings
In the NSCAA/adidas Division II Top 25 poll released on Sept. 23, Nebraska-Omaha is ranked No. 13. Undefeated Truman State is ranked fourth.
Next Week
The Mavericks will begin a four-game roadswing next week when they face a pair of MIAA foes in Missouri. The Mavericks will play Southwest Baptist (5-0, 4-0 MIAA) on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. and Northwest Missouri State (6-2-1, 2-2-1 MIAA) at noon on Saturday, Oct. 4.
