LINCOLN, Neb. - UNO senior #Pinar Saka# set a new school record in the 400 meter dash, highlighting a strong showing from the sprinters on the UNO indoor track and field team in day two of the Holiday Inn Invite. Saka's time of 53.36 broke her own school record of 53.61.
In addition to setting a school record, Saka has now qualified for the indoor national meet.
UNO had its best showing in the 400 meter dash, taking three of the top four spots. #Anja Puc# finished second in a time of 55.39. Fellow sophomore #Kayla Koepke# finished in fourth with a time of 57.83.
Puc is also an automatic qualifier for the indoor national meet. Saka and Puc are ranked 1-2 in the nation at 400 meters.
The Mavericks also place in the top three in the 60 meter dash. Freshman #Maja Mihalinec# ran a time of 7.67, good for second place and .01 second behind winner Chelsea Hayes of Butler Community College.
Mihalinec shone again in the 200 meter dash with another second place finish. Her time of 24.938 was just .005 behind Nyoka Giles of Minnesota for first.
Mihalinec is now a provisional qualifier for the national meet.
In other events on the track, #Lauren Kundert# was twelfth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.44; and Joelene Smith was 14th (1:29.48) and #Lisa Tesarek# was 16th (1:30.90) in the 600 yard run.
In the field events, #Heather Minssen# was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 12.92 meters. #Madison Haugland# was 14th at 11.73 meters.
In the triple jump, #Rasheema Pitt# took fifth place with a jump of 11.12 meters.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 when they take part in the two-day Razorback Invite hosted by the University of Arkansas.
