
Saka, Puc Set National Bests at Nebraska Tune-up

LINCOLN, Neb. - Runners #Pinar Saka and Anja Puc# ran the top times in the nation in two events for the UNO indoor track and field team at the Nebraska Tune-Up meet hosted by Nebraska. Saka set the pace in the 200 meter dash while Puc turned in the best time in Division II in the 800 meter run.
Running the 200 for the first time this season, Saka ran a school record 23.93. That broke the old mark of 24.29 set by nine-time Maverick All-American #Molly Belling# in 2007. Her performance beat the previous best time in the nation by more than a second and a half.
Saka also won the 400 meter dash in 53.32 which is her second fastest time in the event and a shade over her school record of 53.04.
Puc bettered her school-record time in the 800 with a run of 2:09.44, more than two seconds faster than her previous run and a second faster than the previous best national time.
#Jolene Smith# improved her personal best with a time of 1:28.26 in the 600 meter run.
#Mary Margaret Nelson# continued her steady improvement with a time of 3:03.44 in the 1,000 meter run.
The Mavericks return to action next weekend for the three-day Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association track and field championships to be held from Feb. 27 - March 1 at Central Missouri.
