Puc, Saka Lead Mavericks at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - UNO sprinters #Anja Puc and Pinar Saka# further burnished their credentials in indoor track with school record times at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Kansas State University on Saturday. Puc ran the best time in the nation in the 800 meter run while Saka shaved four seconds off the previous school record in the 600.
Puc, competing in the 800 for the first time in her career, ran a time of 2:11.57. It is the best time by a Division II runner in the nation this season. It also bested the old school record of 2:13.25 set by Janice Moreau in 1985.
Saka finished the 600 in a time of 1:20.36. That's more than four seconds faster than the time ran by Angela Kampschneider in 2007 (1:24.59), the old school record. It was also a new meet record, breaking the old mark of 1:22.20 set by former Nebraska standout Stella Klaussen.
Slovenian freshman #Maja Mihalinec# inched closer to being an automatic qualifier for the national indoor meet in the 60 meter dash. She finished in second place with a time of 7.63, just .08 off the automatic qualifying time.
In action from the field, #Rasheema Pitt# finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 5 inches. Shannon Moore finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 10 and 3/4 inches. #Heather Minssen# took third in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 6 inches.
The Mavericks return to native soil next weekend to compete in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite hosted by Nebraska on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7.
