MIAA Soccer Standings
OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team (10-4-1, 9-1-1 MIAA) will continue play on the road this week as it looks to keep pace with Truman for the top spot in the conference. On Thursday, Oct. 22, UNO will battle the Washburn University Lady Blues (8-6, 5-5 MIAA) at 6 p.m. From there, UNO will head to Maryville, Mo., to face the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats (9-5-1, 5-5-1 MIAA). The match is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Mavs, unbeaten in their last six matches, are 2-3-1 on the road this year.
UNO Stays Unbeaten In Last Six Matches With Tie, Win Last Week
The Mavericks didn't win both of their matches last week, but didn't lose either as they began their stretch of six of the next seven games on the road. UNO settled for its first draw of the season against Missouri Western on Oct. 15, 1-1. The Griffons struck first in the 6th minute to take a 1-0 lead early in the first half. #Jerica Kuncl# netted the equalizer in the 12th minute. It was her fourth goal in as many games.
The match ended in a draw after a scoreless second half and two scoreless overtime periods.
The Mavs put another tally in the win column on Oct. 18 as they cruised past Emporia State, 4-1. #Jessica Powers netted the game's first goal. Nicole Baier recorded a hat trick in the game. Her first goal in the 32nd minute proved to be the game winner. Lauren Fox# improved her record to 8-1-1 in net for the Mavs. She made six saves in UNO's two matches.
The Series
The Mavericks have a 4-2 series advantage against the Lady Blues. WU won both matches last season, but UNO rebounded with a win this season on its home field on Oct. 11, 1-0. The Mavs have blanked the Lady Blues in three of their four wins and have outscored them 13-8 all time.
Saturday's game will mark the ninth meeting between UNO and NWMSU. The Mavs own a 7-1-0 advantage in the series. UNO won the previous meeting this season on Oct. 3 with a 2-1 overtime win. UNO has outscored NWMSU 28-5 in the series and has shut out the Bearcats on four occasions.
Scouting The Opponents
WU: WU enters Thursday's match with a 8-6 record overall and is 5-5 in MIAA play. WU is riding a two-game winning streak with wins over Emporia State 2-1 on Oct. 15 and a 1-0 overtime win over NWMSU on Oct. 17.
NWMSU: The Bearcats, losers of their last two games, are 9-5-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the MIAA. Before hosting UNO on Saturday, NWMSU will head to Emporia, Kan., to face Emporia State on Thursday, Oct. 22.
The Coaches
Head coach #Don Klosterman# enters his 11th season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer team. He has compiled a 180-43-8 (.797) overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2002-2008). In those appearances, Klosterman guided the Mavericks to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons (2002-2007), and led the team to a 2005 National Championship.
During his tenure, he has earned the National Coach of the Year honors two times (2002, 2005). The St. Louis, Mo., native has compiled 10-straight winning seasons and has never won less than 13 matches in a season. Klosterman was ranked 16th in victories among all-time Division II coaches entering the 2009 fall season.
Washburn is guided by seventh-year head coach Tim Collins who owns a 68-47-21 overall record. NWMSU is coached by Tracy Hoza who enters her seventh season. She is the second head coach in the history of the Bearcat soccer program. Hoza has compiled a 46-69-13 overall record.

After playing their last four games on the road, UNO will return to UNO Soccer Field for its final home match of the regular season when it hosts Missouri Southern on Oct. 29. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
