The Mavericks will face a pair of top-10 teams as they play three more MIAA matches this week. No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha (18-8, 8-5 MIAA) will travel to eighth-ranked Washburn (26-3, 10-3) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match. Friday they will return home to host Fort Hays State (7-21, 3-11) at Sapp Fieldhouse and Saturday they will host No. 9 Emporia State (24-3, 11-2) at 4 p.m.
Entering the second half of the MIAA season last week, the Mavericks dropped matches to Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State before beating Southwest Baptist. The Mavericks dropped to No. 20 in the AVCA national poll on Monday and are fifth in the NCAA South Central Region ranking.

Goeser Nears Admission To 1,000 Kills Club
Senior outside hitter Kelli Goeser is 27 kills away from 1,000 in her career at UNO. The four-year player has 973 kills and is currently 21st in UNO history.
Goeser is second on the team with 2.92 kills per set and third with 3.20 points a set. She has 15 double-figure kill matches this year.
Goeser would become the second Maverick to reach 1,000 kills this year at UNO and the 18th in school history. Ellen Thommes reached the milestone on September 11 against Drury.
Sophomore Angie Reicks Moving Up In MIAA In Digs
Sophomore libero Angie Reicks is moving up in MIAA in digs. Reicks is No. 6 with 4.23 digs per game and she has 423 this season. In the matches last week, Reicks had 15 digs against Missouri Southern, 27 against Pittsburg State and 12 against Southwest Baptist. She has had 777 digs in her career at UNO.
Myers Fourth In MIAA In Assists
Sophomore setter Emily Myers is fourth in the MIAA with 10.97 assists per set. She has had 30 or more assists in 25 of 26 matches this year and she's topped 50 six times. She also has 11 double-doubles this year combining double-figure assist totals with double-figure dig totals. Three of her last five matches have been double-doubles.
Ebke First In The MIAA In Aces
Freshman defensive specialist Natalie Ebke remained first in the MIAA with .53 aces per set. Ebke has a total of 53 aces with a serve percentage of .890 for this season. Ebke holds UNO's top four single-match marks for assists this year, getting five or more four times.
Mavericks Move To 20th In National Poll
The Mavericks dropped to No. 20 in the AVCA national ranking released Monday. The Mavericks had been No. 16 the last two weeks before they went 1-2 last week. UNO is one of six MIAA teams in the top 25 and overall, seven of UNO's 2009 opponents are in the ranking.
The Mavericks were unrated in the preseason and after week one. Their highest ranking this year was 15th on September 28 and October 5.
The Mavericks will play No. 8 Washburn this week. WU moved to eighth after being ranked ninth last week. The will also play No. 9 Emporia State. The Hornets dropped from seventh after falling to Truman last week.
Mavs Nearly Unbeatable When Winning First Set
The Mavericks were 16-1 entering the week when winning the first set of a match. They won all three opening sets last week but only produced a 1-2 match record. Nebraska-Omaha is now 17-3 when winning the first set of the match. Conversely, the Mavericks are 1-5 when dropping the opening set.
Before this week, their only loss when starting with a win came on September 9 in a five-set loss at No. 9 Nebraska-Kearney. Their only win after losing set one came on September 18 in a five-set battle with No. 22 Pittsburg State.
Mavericks Look To Stay In Chase For Postseason
The Mavericks were fifth in the most recent NCAA South Central Region ranking, released October 15. Another ranking will be released Thursday. The top eight teams in the final ranking will earn a spot in the NCAA region tournament. UNO has been to the last five postseason tournaments and 17 overall. Head coach Rose Shires has led UNO to 10 postseason appearances with a national title in 1996.

Washburn University is coming into this week's match at 26-3 and ranked eighth in the nation. The Lady Blues are 10-3 in the MIAA and positioned third. The Mavs beat Washburn at home on September 23 in a five-set match, 28-26, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12. Washburn's Mollie Lacy leads the MIAA with a .426 attack percentage and Breanna Lewis is third at .384 and right behind UNO's Ellen Thommes.
Fort Hays State comes into this week's match with a 3-11 record in the MIAA. The Mavs beat FHSU on the road with a sweep on September 25 and the Tigers have been on a three-match losing streak with losses against Northwest Missouri, Truman, and Rockhurst in the last week.
Emporia State dropped to ninth this week after a loss at Truman ended an eight-match winning streak. The Hornets are 24-3 overall and second in the MIAA at 11-2. Arica Shepard leads the MIAA with 4.34 kills a set and 4.69 points. Ting Liu leads the league with 11.74 assists a set. UNO fell at ESU on September 26, 3-2.

The Mavericks will play three more matches next week as they host Northwest Missouri Western State on November 4 and travel to Missouri Western November 6 and to Truman November 7. Truman State is ranked 18 in the AVCA standings.
