Final Regular Season Home Game Awaits Mavericks

MIAA Standings
The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team (12-4-1, 11-1-1 MIAA) will play its final home game of the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 29 when Missouri Southern State University (4-12-0, 2-10-0 MIAA) comes to town. The Mavericks are perfect at home this season at 7-0 and have won 10 straight at UNO Soccer Field. UNO will honor its four seniors on the roster with a brief halftime ceremony during the game.
UNO Collects Pair Of Key MIAA Wins Last Week
The Mavericks picked up a pair of crucial late-season conference wins last week over Washburn and Northwest Missouri State to improve their conference mark to 11-1-1 and keep pace with Truman in the race for the conference championship. The Mavericks currently have a one-point lead over the Bulldogs in the latest conference standings, but TSU plays two games to UNO's one this week.
The Mavs blanked Washburn 4-0 on Oct. 22 to complete thier season sweep of the Lady Blues. #Nicole Baier# scored a pair of unassisted goals, including the game winner in the 34th minute. Baier also assisted on Lindsey Nealon's goal on a corner kick feed. #Nicole Cunningham# scored her second goal of the season on a header shot from Jerica Kuncl's corner kick. The UNO defense limited WU to four shots in the game, which included just one second-period shot. Lauren Fox got the win in goal.
Baier found the back of the net two more times against NWMSU on Oct. 24. The redshirt freshman scored twice in the first eight minutes of the first half to help guide the Mavs to a 2-0 win. Her goal at 3:20 proved to be the game winner, her sixth game winner of the season. #Jessica Powers# and Kuncl assisted on Baier's goals. The Maverick defense turned in a solid performance once again, limiting the Bearcats to seven shots in the game. Fox made six saves while collecting her career high 6.6 shutout of the year.

The Mavs own a perfect 9-0 record against the Lions and have outscored them 31-3, including seven shutouts.
Scouting The Opponent
MSSU: Missouri Southern enters Thursday's match with a 4-12 record overall and is 2-10 in the MIAA. The Lions have been shutout in their last five matches. Their last win came against Washburn on Oct. 3.
The Coaches
Head coach #Don Klosterman# enters his 11th season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer team. He has compiled a 182-43-8 (.798) overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2002-2008). In those appearances, Klosterman guided the Mavericks to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons (2002-2007), and led the team to a 2005 National Championship.
During his tenure, he has earned the National Coach of the Year honors two times (2002, 2005). The St. Louis, Mo., native has compiled 10-straight winning seasons and has never won less than 13 matches in a season. Klosterman was ranked 16th in victories among all-time Division II coaches entering the 2009 fall season.
Missouri Southern is coached by Trevor Wachsman who is in his seventh year. The Lions finished their 2008 season with a 6-12-1 record and went 4-11-1 in MIAA play under Wachsman.

The Mavericks will play their final two regular season matches on the road. UNO will face Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. From Bolivar, Mo., the Mavs will battle Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
