OMAHA, Neb. - A pair of high school seniors signed national letters of intent Wednesday to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha next year and play volleyball for the Mavericks.
Head coach Rose Shires announced the signing of Miranda Wisehart, a setter from Seward, Neb., and Seward High School and Megan Hutson, a middle hitter from Logan, Neb., and Logan-Magnolia High School.
Wisehart is still playing her senior year of competition at Seward High School. Last year she earned second team all-state and academic all-state as she helped lead the Bluejays to a 27-6 record and trip to the Class B state tournament.
"Miranda is a smooth setter who brings speed and quickness to our team," Shires said. "She is a driven athlete who brings a winning focus to the floor and she will immediately impact our starting lineup."
Megan is also in her final year of high school competition. The three-sport athlete also plays basketball and runs track at Logan-Magnolia HS. She played on the SWI Third Degree volleyball club team.
"Megan is an athlete," Shires said. "She is a dynamic middle who excels off one foot. She can touch 10 feet and she'll impact our blocking game right away. Megan is a fierce competitor who will be a force in the MIAA."
Shires and her Mavericks are currently 20-12 this year and ranked No. 22 in the nation. They wrap up the regular season Friday at 7 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse against Central Missouri.
Sunday the NCAA will announce the tournament field and the Mavs will look to play in their sixth straight tournament and the 11th in Shires' 20th season at UNO.
