2009 All-MIAA Team Announced

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team had four players named to the MIAA all-conference team, including three on the first team released Thursday by the conference office. Redshirt freshman forward #Nicole Baier# was named the MIAA Player of the Year. Baier, #Jessica Powers and Megan Jensen were named to the first team. Lauren Fox# earned an honorable mention goalkeeper.
Baier was a first-team unanimous choice. The Omaha native led the conference in points (43), goals (16) and assists (11). She was also tied for the league lead with six game-winning goals. Baier is the sixth Maverick in school history to win the conference player of the year award and just the second freshman ever to earn the honor.
Katie Hobbs was named NCC Player of the Year in her freshman year in 1999. Stephanie Kruse (2000), Beth McGill (2002, 2005, 2006) and Dani McCawley (2007) earned NCC Player of the Year accolades.
Powers earned her first, first-team selection. Last season she received an honorable mention. After making the jump to forward this season for the first time since high school, Powers finished with 23 points, eight goals and seven assists. All which were career highs and second on the team.
It is Jensen's first time receiving a first-team selection. Last season she was named to the MIAA second team. The Lincoln, Neb., native is part of a UNO back line that allowed 15 goals on the season and held opponents to under 10 shots 13 times this season. She had one goal on the year, which was a game-winner against Missouri Southern on Oct. 29.
It is Fox's first time as an honorable mention. The junior goalkeeper compiled an 11-2-2 record and has recorded 7.4 shutouts on the year, both which were career highs.
The No. 5 seed Mavericks take on No. 4 Truman tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA South Central region tournament in Canyon, Texas. The winner will advance to face top-seeded West Texas A&M in second round play on Sunday at 1 pm.
