Baier Named To Daktronics All-America Third Team

2009 Nicole Baier Stats
SAN ANGELO, Texas - Redshirt freshman forward #Nicole Baier# was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America Third Team. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 23 different institutions filled out the three teams.
The Omaha native is the second Maverick in school history to receive the honor. Beth McGill was named to the 2006 Daktronics All-America Second Team.
Baier led the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with 16 goals and 11 assists to finish the season with 43 points. Of her 16 goals, six of them were game-winning goals which was tied for the league lead. On Nov. 17, Baier was named Daktronics South Central Region Player of the Year and was an All-South Central Region First Team Selection.
Sports information directors from NCAA D-II schools and conferences selected the three
Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team all-region picks
advancing to the national ballot. This is the fourth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA D-II
Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams.
The 2009 NSCAA South Central All-Region was also announced today. A panel of 20 coaches from schools in the South Central Region voted. A total of 33 student-athletes made up the three teams.
Senior defender #Megan Jensen# was named to the All-Region Second Team. The Lincoln, Neb., native was part of a UNO back line that allowed 16 goals on the season and held opponents to under 10 shots 14 times on the year. Jensen scored one goal on the year, which was a game-winner against Missouri Southern on Oct. 29.
Baier was named to the All-Region Third Team.
The Mavericks finished the season with a 13-6-2 overall record and finished second in the MIAA with a 12-2-2- conference mark.

Led the team and MIAA with 16 goals, 11 assists and 43 points...six of her goals were game-winning goals, which was tied for first in the MIAA...recorded hat tricks in two games on the year, Sept. 4 (3 G, 2 A) against Central Oklahoma and Oct. 18 (3 G, 1 A) against Emporia State...became the fourth player in school history to collect two hat tricks in a single season...became the fifth player in school history to reach the eight-point mark in a single game when she netted three goals and added two assists on Sept. 4 against Central Oklahoma..tied for sixth with Beth McGill (2005), Anne Willrett (2004) and Amanda Iwansky (2005) for the most goals in a single season with 16...recorded seven multi-goal games and two multi-assist games on the year....fired a 86 shots, putting 45 of them on goal.

Tore her ACL and missed her senior season...earned first-team all-Class A honors as a junior and was the second-leading scorer in Class A with 25 goals...team captain.
