
Freshman Power Mavericks To 14-2 Win Over Gannon

WINTERHAVEN, Fla. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha routed the Gannon University Golden Knights 14-2 Saturday afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in a game that was shortended to just seven innings.
The Mavericks pounded out 18 hits on the game, with six different batters posting multi-hit afternoons. Freshman #Brett Koehn# led the way for UNO, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and belting his first-career home run.
Koehn wasn't the only Mav to post a career first, #Chris Kessinger and Drew Schwab# each hit their first homers in a UNO uniform Saturday as well, while starting pitcher #Joe Holtmeyer# picked up his first career win.
Holtmeyer, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., threw a gem for the Mavericks, going five solid innings, striking out eight Gannon batters and allowing just one run on two hits.
UNO moves to 8-3 on the season and will return to action Sunday, Mar. 1, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational against Kentucky Wesleyan at 11:45 a.m. CST.
