Mavericks Wallop Bearcats In Friday Doubleheader

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The UNO baseball team ran its latest winning streak to five games with an 11-3, 14-6 doubleheader sweep of Northwest Missouri State on Friday afternoon. The Mavericks have driven in 70 runs during the streak and are now 31-10 on the year and 21-5 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The two teams will square off again in another doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
Game 1
The Mavericks scored ten runs over the first three innings and held off the Bearcats 11-3 in the opener. #Andrew Hansen# went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs to power the UNO attack.
The Mavs led 2-1 after one inning and pushed across four more in the second. Hansen keyed the outburst with a two-run triple to right center that drove in #Jeremy Klein and Travis Jacobi#.
UNO got four more runs in the third, all of them with two outs. Hansen knocked in Jacobi and #Brian Goliber# with a double, and #Evan Porter# singled up the middle to plate Hansen and Klein.
#Chris Kessinger# pitched five strong innings in the seven-inning game to earn the win and improve to 5-3 on the year. He allowed one run on five hits while striking out five. He also walked six batters.
Game 2
Three different players had three RBI each to power the Mavericks to a 14-6 win in game two. Porter led the RBI parade, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and three runs scored while #Drew Schwab and Mat Eikmeier# also had three RBI.
UNO had a 2-0 lead after three innings, thanks in part to a solo homer by Porter in the third.
The Bearcats got four in the bottom of that inning. Trevor Connor started a string of three straight RBI hits with a single. Matt Stice followed with a double to left center, and Chris Benham had another double to left that scored Stice to put Northwest up 4-2.
The Mavericks took the lead for good in the fifth inning. Hansen singled up the middle to score Jacobi but got picked off first base. That cost the Mavericks a run because Porter homered on the next pitch to tie the game at four. Eikmeier followed with a single that scored two unearned runs as the Bearcats committed two errors in the inning. UNO led 6-4.
The Mavs scored eight runs over the final three innings including five in the ninth to win going away.
#Ben Percival# ran his record to 9-0 on the year. He worked all nine innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking two.
