Mavericks Split Series Finale with Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The UNO baseball team tied a season high with 20 hits in a 13-7 win over Northwest Missouri State to salvage a split of the second doubleheader of their four game series. The Bearcats won the first game of the day, 5-1. The Mavericks are now 32-11 on the year and 22-6 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
UNO returns to action on Tuesday, April 14 with a visit to non-conference foe Rockhurst University.
Game 1
Northwest pitcher Bret Harvel held the Mavericks to just two hits over six and two-thirds innings as the Bearcats won the first game of the doubleheader, 5-1.
The only UNO run came in the fifth inning when a single by #Brian Strawn chased home Brett Koehn#.
Northwest took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, helped by a two-run single from Bill Disselhoff. After the Mavericks closed to within 3-1 on Strawn's hit, the Bearcats added two more in the bottom of the sixth inning for insurance.
#Joe Holtmeyer# took the loss on the hill for the Mavericks. He gave up three earned runs on five hits in just three and two-thirds innings. He struck out four but walked five.
Game 2
The Mavericks jumped out to a 12-0 lead and survived a 6-run onslaught by the Bearcats in the sixth inning to salvage of a split of the doubleheader. #Andrew Hansen# was outstanding at the plate, earning five hits in six at bats while scoring four times. Koehn drove in three UNO runs on 2-for-5 hitting.
UNO got two runs in each of the first two innings and then jumped on the Bearcats for six in the third. #Jeremy Klein and Hansen had RBI singles and Drew Schwab# followed with another single to drive in two more to key the outburst. #Mat Eikmeier#, who started the inning with a double down the left field line, finished the scoring with an RBI double.
Northwest got all six runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning on six hits to make it 12-6. The Bearcats got another run in the eighth before UNO completed the scoring in the ninth inning on a solo home run by #Chris Kessinger#.
#Kyle Dahman# improved to 5-0 for the Mavericks in the win. He allowed eight hits and five runs, three of them earned, in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked only one. #Paul Hansen and Andrew Martinez# worked in relief to nail down the win.
