UNO Announces '09-10 Men's Basketball Signees

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team announced the signing of one high school recruit and two junior college transfers for the 2009-2010 season today. Forward Jake Anderson (Council Bluffs, Iowa), guard Jamel Lebranch (Omaha, Neb.) and Eugene Bain (Bahamas) will join the Mavericks next year.
“We're excited by the potential of all three players,” said #Derrin Hansen#, UNO head coach. “Each player brings different skills to our program. We also were able to add more size up front.”
Bain is a 6-5, 210 lb. forward who played for coach Kevin O'Connor at North Platte Community College. He was a second team NJCAA All-American and a first team All-Region 9 pick. He averaged nearly 17 points and more than 11 rebounds per game. His rebounding total was tenth best in the nation last season. Bain also was named the Omaha World Herald's All-Nebraska Junior College First Team Honorary Captain.
Lebranch is a 6-0 guard who played for Northwest High School and at Central Community College for coach Damon Vogt. He's a two-time first team All-Region 9 selection and a two-time first team all-conference pick at Central CC. He averaged 12 points and 6.7 assists. The assist average was seventh-best in the country.
Anderson is a 7-0 center who played at St. Albert's High School and helped his team advance to the Iowa State Tournament. He was an honorable mention all-conference pick and an all-city team pick. He averaged ten points and five rebounds last season. He also had 60 blocks and finished his career with 130.
The Mavericks finished the 2008-09 season with a record of 17-11 and 11-9 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
