Erwin Joins UNO Men's Basketball

OMAHA, Neb. – UNO head men's basketball coach Derrin Hansen announced today that Tyler Erwin has been named assistant coach. Erwin replaces Randall Herbst who left UNO last month to become the head coach of the University of Mary.
“Tyler brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to UNO,” said Hansen. “He will be a great asset to our program, both on the bench and on the recruiting trail.”
Erwin comes to UNO from Simpson College of Indianola, Iowa where he was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the men's team for four seasons. Prior to that, he spent one summer as the Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Coach for the Nebraska Cranes, a now-defunct development team in the United States Basketball League. Erwin was a graduate assistant coach at the University of Nebraska at Kearney from 2003-2005. He began his coaching career at Midland Lutheran College where he was an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach from 2000-2003.
Erwin is a native of Laurel, Neb. He attended Laurel-Concord High School where he was an all-state and all-conference player in basketball and football. He then went to Midland Lutheran where he had more than 700 points and 200 rebounds in a four-year career. He captained the Warriors during his senior year, earning all-conference honors and leading his team to the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the 2000 NAIA national tournament.
Erwin received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Coaching from Midland Lutheran in 2000. He later earned a Master's Degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration from UNK in 2005.
