UNO Travels To Kirksville To Battle Truman This Week
The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team (5-3-0, 4-0-0 MIAA) will bring its four-game winning streak on the road this weekend as it plays just one match. The Mavs will face the Truman State Bulldogs (4-2-2, 3-1 MIAA) on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is slated for noon at the Truman Soccer Pitch.
Mavs Remain Perfect In MIAA Play
The Mavericks won two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association games last week to stay unbeaten in conference play.
UNO capped off its three-game homestand with a 2-0 win over Central Missouri on Sept. 17. Freshman defender Danielle Archuleta scored her first career goal when she buried a loose ball past UCM goalkeeper Lauren Bamvakais. The goal at 46:52 proved to be the game winner. Jerica Kuncl provided an insurance goal at 80:31.
On Sept. 19, the Mavs traveled to Joplin, Mo., for their first conference road match against Missouri Southern. UNO and MSSU battled the entire first half with out a goal. That changed early in the second when Kuncl fired a corner kick into the goal box and Hilary Horvatic slipped the ball past MSSU goalkeeper Randi Russell for the goal. It proved to be the game winner. Jessica Powers added a goal in the game. Lauren Fox picked up shut out wins in both games.
The Series
Saturday's match will mark the 17th time UNO and Truman have faced each other. The Mavericks have the upper hand in the series owning a 12-4 all-time record. UNO won the last meeting on Sept. 12 in Omaha, 4-1. Two of the Mavericks four losses to the Bulldogs have come in Kirksville including last season's 4-1 loss on Oct. 20.
