Mavericks Take 74-66 Win Over Rockhurst

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO men's basketball team had two 20-point scorers on Wednesday night, posting a 74-66 win over Rockhurst at Sapp Fieldhouse. With the victory, the Mavericks improve to 2-0 on the season, while Rockhurst drops to 0-2.
Senior guard Tyler Bullock led the way with 28 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the floor, adding a trio of steals, a trio of assists and a block. Senior guard Torrian Harris also finished with 20 points with a 7-for-10 shooting performance and a perfect 6-for-6 showing at the free throw line. Harris added a team-leading 10 boards for his first double-double of the year. In addition, senior guard Jeff Martin chipped in 11 points to give the Mavs three double-digit scorers.
Rockhurst had two players finished in double-figure scoring – forward Aaron Morrissey (20) and center Blake Baird (14), who also had seven rebounds to top RU defensively.
UNO took the early lead with four points by senior guard Aaron Terry in the first two minutes, but the two squads traded shots for much of the first half. Rockhurst went up by five points on consecutive 3-pointers by Brandon McCann and Najja Nicholson with five minutes remaining. The Hawks maintained the advantage, taking a 74-66 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, UNO limited RU to 36 percent shooting from the field after the Hawks had shot 51 percent in the first stanza. For their part, the Mavericks hit nearly half of their second-half shots from the floor, and UNO won the inside battle with 14 points in the paint to Rockhurst's four. The effort was also highlighted by Harris, who had 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting, while Bullock added 13 of his own.
RU took its widest lead of the game at 57-50, but the Mavs overcame it with a key offensive rebound and a dunk by Bullock with five minutes left. A jumper by Terance Tatum tied the game for a final time at 65-65, but the Mavs held on with a combined nine points by Bullock and Harris to seal the win at 74-66.
UNO returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 23, traveling to Nebraska-Kearney. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Kearney, Neb.
