Four Mavs finished in double-figure scoring, with senior guards Tyler Bullock and Aaron Terry tallying 15 points apiece, which marked a career high for Terry. Senior guard Torrian Harris and junior guard Mitch Albers each added 11 points, with Harris leading the way on the glass with seven rebounds, as well as a trio of blocks. Bullock also dished out eight assists and a team-leading three steals.
The Lopers were topped by Max Froehlich, who totaled 21 points before fouling out late in the second half. Beau Baker also had 16 points, while Chris Deans and Mike Dentlinger each contributed 13. Dentlinger finished with a double-double, also pulling down 12 rebounds.
Nebraska-Kearney gave a strong showing on the boards, outrebounding UNO 50-33. The Lopers also hit 17-of-18 free throws in the second half, shooting 95 percent from the charity stripe for the night.
Two layups by Terry in the opening minutes helped Nebraska-Omaha to a 6-2 lead, and 10 of Terry's points came in the first half. Tied 10-10, Alex Welhouse hit a three to go back ahead, but the Lopers gained control minutes later on a trey by Deans to make it 17-15. The Mavs fought back to a 26-all tie with a triple by guard Jeff Martin, and another outside shot by the senior helped the score to 34-31 UNO. But Froehlich worked inside with less than two minutes to go, giving Kearney a 37-34 advantage at the half.
In the second stanza, Terry and Albers both hit layups and subsequent free throws to regain a 42-39 margin before Albers hit a 3-pointer to make it 45-39. The score remained in the Mavericks' favor until the 14-minute mark, when a jumper by Baker put the home squad back in the front. The Lopers then put together a 16-4 run to take their largest lead of the game, but UNO brought it within two on a layup by Bullock with six minutes remaining.
At 2:50, Albers banked in a pair of free throws to narrow the Lopers' score to 73-72, but 13 more UNK points on 10 foul shots and a triple sealed the game at 86-74.
