No. 7 Spartans Rally to Beat No. 16 Mavs, 9-6

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa Spartans scored a combined six unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to hand the No. 16 Nebraska-Omaha baseball team a 9-6 loss Tuesday night at the UT Baseball Field.
The Mavs drop to 11-5 overall on the season and have now lost three straight. Tampa has now won 11 straight and improves to 23-5 on the year.
UNO got out to a 6-2 lead in the top of the sixth, scoring four in the fiftth and two in the sixth. #Brady Hohl ripped a two-run single that scored Colby McCord and Jake Benne#, who both singled to get on base. Hohl ended up scoring in the inning on a pass ball.
It was Hohl again in the top of the sixth who singled - this time to right field, and drove in McCord and Benne once again to make the score 6-3 in favor of UNO.
The Spartans regained the lead in the bottom half of the sixth on a four hit, five run inning led by a two-run double by Devin Gonzalez to put Tampa ahead 8-6. Tom Meagher got the win in relief for the Spartans to move to 5-0.
#Joe Holtmeyer# got he start for the Mavs and received the no decision in five innings on the hill. He gave up three runs, all earned, on six hits while striking out seven and walking three. It's Holtmeyer's fourth straight game with seven or more strike outs. #Ryan Tomlinson# took the loss giving up four runs on three hits.
UNO will be back on the field in its home opener on Saturday, March 20 when MIAA rivals the Truman Bulldogs come to town for a pair of doubleheaders. Saturday's game one is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
