BOYS TOWN, Neb. - Sophomore right-hander #Joe Holtmeyer# was fabulous in his start as the Nebraska-Omaha baseball team picked up two more Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association wins against Truman to complete its four-game sweep of the Bulldogs Monday afternoon at the Ball Park at Boys Town.
UNO won the first game 1-0 (7 inn.) and enforced the 10-run rule on the Bulldogs in the second game with a 17-7 (8 inn.) victory. The Mavericks are now 15-5 on the year with an 11-1 conference mark, while the Bulldogs dip to 4-16 with a 1-11 record in the MIAA.
Holtmeyer (3-1) was nearly perfect on the hill for UNO in his sixth start of the season. The sophomore struck out a career high 16 batters and allowed just one hit en route to his first complete game shutout of the season. Holmeyer struck out the side in the first, third and fifth innings, and at one point in the game, retired 11-straight batters. The Omaha native fanned each Bulldog starter at least one time, and struck out seven of the nine starters twice in the game. He finished with seven innings pitched and did not walk any batters.
It was the most strike outs by a Maverick pitcher in a game since Tim Huber and Dustin Koca each fanned 14 batters in 2008. Huber did it against Minnesota Duluth on 4/14/08 and Koca reached 14 against St. Cloud State on 4/28/08.
Steven Rose collected the only hit for Truman when he singled to right field in the second inning.
Truman starter Ryan Trimble allowed just the one run on four UNO hits while striking out five and walking five batters in what turned out to be a pitcher's dual.
#Jake Benne drove in the game-winning run on a single that scored Travis Jacobi# from second base.
Game 2
The Bulldogs got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with the help of a three-run home run from Deven Meyers. TSU added another run in the second to go up 4-0, but the Mavericks tied it up in the bottom half of the inning on two-run doubles from #Brady Hohl and Ryan Hook#.
There was no scoring until the fourth inning when Hook belted a triple to deep center that scored Benne and gave UNO its first lead of the game, 5-4 . Hook later scored in the inning on a fielding error by Truman to put UNO up 6-4. The Bulldogs' Meyers got TSU within a run with his second long ball of game, this time a solo shot to left center that made it 6-5.
The Mavs began to put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning as they put five runs on the board and tallied four more in the bottom of the seventh. #Andrew Hansen slapped a single which scored Tim Urban# to enforce the 10-run rule with the score 17-7.
Hansen went 3-for-6 in the game with two runs scored and an RBI. #Tyler Lundy# went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, Benne went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, #Jeremy Klein# was 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Hook went 3-for-5 in the game with three RBIs, a double and a triple.
Jacobi collected his team-leading 12th stolen base of the season in the game and had two on the day. He is now 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts on the season. He led the team with 15 last season.
The No. 28 Mavs will host No. 13 Emporia State on Friday, March 26 at 2 p.m. at the Ball Park at Boys Town.

Joe Holtmeyer's one-hit complete game shutout was the third of his career...he tossed one hitters against MIAA foe Missouri Southern State (3/15/09) with 11 strikeouts and against Pittsburg State (3/29/09) with six strikeouts...the Omaha native has six or more strikeouts in all of his six starts on the year...he has double digit stikeouts in three of his starts on the season this year...it was his second complete game of the season.
