OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's tennis team made it two wins in a row Tuesday at Koch Tennis Center as they shut out the Griffons of Missouri Western State, 9-0. The win is the Mavs' first conference win of the year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, moving them to 1-0. The Griffons drop to 2-5 (0-1) overall while the Mavericks improve to 5-3 overall.
In No. 1 doubles, Traci Moklestad and Kelsey Haas started things off right with a victory over the Griffons' pairing, 8-3. The win moves the UNO pairing to 6-7 overall. Mary Lausten and Kelsie Olson won their match in No. 2 doubles over the Amber Adams and Nicole Kerr pairing, 8-3. The Mavs finished off the doubles competition with another 8-3 victory, but this time it was sophomore Diana Dobey and junior Sara Wheeland picking up the win.
The singles competition was no different as the Mavs made quick work of the Griffons. No. 1 singles competitor, Traci Moklestad, upped her win total to five as she dispatched of Dominique Leone, 6-1, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, Kelsie Olson remains tied at the top of the team for most overall wins with nine after she won against Nicole Kerr, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Mary Lausten made it a perfect day for her and the Mavs when she overcame Alecia Jenkins of Missouri Western, 6-0, 6-1.
The Mavericks are back in MIAA action Saturday when they take on Fort Hays State. The match is slated to start at 10 a.m.
