Mavs Wrap Up Regular Season Road Games At Washburn

The No. 29 University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team (22-8, 16-4 MIAA) will continue its conference road trip when it heads to Topeka, Kan., to take on Washburn (13-14, 12-12 MIAA) in a four-game series. The Mavericks and Ichabods will play doubleheaders on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 at Falley Field. Saturday's first pitch is slated for 2 p.m. while Sunday's first game starts at 1 p.m. UNO is 9-3 at home on the year while the Ichabods have compiled a 7-8 road record.
A Look At The Ichabods
The Washburn University Ichabods are 13-14 overall on the year with a 12-12 conference mark which puts them fifth in the MIAA. Washburn has a 1-4 mark in the month of April and is 2-9 in its last 11 games. WU is led at the plate by junior infielder Andy Petz who is hitting .416 with 24 RBI and 32 hits, which includes seven doubles and one home run. On the hill, senior right-hander Dustin Holthaus leads the Ichabods with a 4-2 record in six starts. He has a 3.15 ERA in 40 innings pitched on the year.
The Icabods are scheduled to play a doubleheader against Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan., on April 14 before hosting the Mavericks this weekend.

UNO and WU have played 68 games against each other all time with each team having won 34 games. Since joining the MIAA last season, UNO is 2-2 against WU. The teams most recently met in a four-games series on May 2 and 3 in Omaha, Neb., last year. UNO won the opener 7-5 while WU took the nightcap, 6-5. The Ichabods won the third game 14-4 and the Mavericks responded with an 11-7 win in the finale.

#Bob Herold# begins his 11th season as head coach of the Mavericks. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 366-214 (.631) all-time as a college head coach. The Maverick skipper picked up his 350th career win against on March 7 with a 9-8 win over Missouri Southern State. Herold is assisted by Chris Gadsden (11th Season) and Dan McGinn (10th Season).
Washburn head coach Steve Anson begins his 31st season at Washburn as the winningest coach in the MIAA. He is 750-680-3 in 30 seasons at Washburn and 773-702-3 in 31 seasons overall.
