BOYS TOWN, Neb. - #Andrew Hansen# hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to help the Nebraska-Omaha baseball team to a 6-5 win in the first game. UNO followed it up with an 8-5 win in the nightcap to do what no team has done all year to top-ranked Central Missouri - win two in a row to sweep Saturday's series-opening doubleheader against the Mules.
The Mavericks improve to 32-14 overall with a 28-10 MIAA mark, while UCM falls to 40-7 with a 32-6 conference record. UNO's 28 wins in MIAA play are the most since joining the conference in 2009.
The Mules put up runs in the second and third frame and took a 2-0 lead with them into the bottom of the fourth until UNO responded with four runs to take a 4-2 lead. #Ryan Hook hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Hansen from third. Travis Jacobi cleared the bases with a two-run single. Jake Benne# added the fourth run with an RBI single.
A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth from Hansen put UNO up 5-3. The lead didn't last long as the Mules' Tyler Ruch hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth.
In the bottom of the seventh, Benne reached base on a catcher's interference call to lead off the inning. #Brady Hohl# ripped a double to advance Bene into scoring position at third base, and Hansen did his part with the sac fly to drive in Benne for the game's winning run.
Game one featured two of the countries top pitchers with UNO's #Joe Holtmeyer# (9-1) facing off against UCM's Brooks Martin (9-0). Holtmeyer earned the win - his seventh straight, in his seventh-straight complete game of the season and eighth of the year. The sophomore allowed five runs - four earned, on four hits while striking out 13 and walking three. He allowed two home runs in the game.
Holtmeyer, the nation's leader in strike outs this season, now has 137 of them on the year. It was his sixth game with 13 more strike outs in a game and the ninth game with double-digit strike outs.
Martin exited early in the fourth after being ejected for arguing calls with the home plate umpire and got a no-decision. Travis Unthank (1-1) took the loss for the Mules.
Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second in the second game, UNO used the long ball to plate four runs. #Trevor Gappa# drilled a two-run home run to put the Mavericks up 2-1. Three batters later, Hohl went yard on another two-run bomb. It was his first this season.

He went five innings and allowed three runs - all earned, on six hits while striking out three and walking two. #Colby McCord# relieved Tew in the sixth inning and finished out the rest of the game to pick up his second save of the season. He allowed two runs - all earned, on three hits while striking out three.
UCM's Chad Curtis (7-1) was handed his first loss of the season. He gave up six runs on six hits.
The last time a UNO baseball team defeated the top-ranked team in the country was against UCM on February 12, 2006 when the Mavs won 12-10 at a tournament in Las Vegas. The Mavs are now 3-5 against nationally- ranked teams this season.
The series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
